Li Ying is one of my classmates.We share a bedroom with four others,so weare also roommates.Today is her birthday and it so happened that it is Sunday atthe weekend.We decide to hold a party to celebrate Li Ying's birthday in our ownbedroom.Since she is the youngest in our room,we all feel responsible to takecare of her.We hope that this party can relieve her homesickness.
We bought some fruit and candy,nineteen small candles,and a cake.At sevenin the evening,the party began.We lit the candles and sang "A happy birthday toyou" to Li Ying.And then we each gave her a small present.Li Ying looked excitedand happy.She blew out the candles,and we tasted the fruit and candy whiletalking about various funny things we experienced in our childhood at home.Atthe end of the party we encouraged each other to study even harder and be topstudents in our class.
The party was a success,for Li Ying seemed very pleased and looked moreconfident of herself.Tomorrow she will be nineteen years of age.

College is much different than high school. You may decide to commute fromyour home to a local campus. Without doubt, the most dramatic freshman year isfor those living away from home. What can we expect as we head off into thewonderful world of higher education?
The first thing I notice is the workload. It is heavier and more intensethan I ever experienced before. The major challenges of college work are largevolume of reading, short deadlines, and “endless” writing. A related effect thatcan be brought on by the workload is doubt, frustration, and loneliness ifpossible.
On some of those long, seemingly endless nights of studying and writing, itwill be very natural for me to long for fine old days. Hang in there. These downperiods will pass.
I have made a lot of new friends. I am sure college friendships will beamong the most satisfying and long-term in my life. It's always exciting todiscover how wonderfully diverse college relationships can be.
I am enjoying my newfound freedom. Stay up until dawn talking about myideals and ambitions with my dorm's regular bull session buddies. Sleep in untilthe afternoon on a light class day. Explore the local town or suburbs with oneor two of my new friends.
I even start to think about my future. Going to college is as much aboutfinding out who am I as it is about getting the degree.
